Summer isn’t summer in Cape Town without the exciting lineup of Sunday sunset live music performances at the Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden.
The Kirstenbosch Summer Sunset Concerts really is a family affair – all are welcome. I brought my 2 boys and my mom along to the Karen Zoid and Francois van Coke Concert on the 17th of January, and we had so much fun. The concert was packed, kids were running free, people were singing and dancing and the vibe was just incredible.
Karen Zoid had broken some fingers a couple of days before the concert, and although she couldn’t play her guitar, she put on a great show. She still made a joke that her doctor was in the audience and that he shouldn’t drink too much as he had to operate on her hand the next day!
My 4 year old and I went up to the front of the crowd to dance with the youngsters and watch the musicians play. We looked back into the crowd and saw people singing along, clapping, eating and drinking.
Musicians in this country are incredibly talented and the Kirstenbosch Summer Sunset Concerts is the perfect place to showcase them. What more do you want? Great music set in a beautiful World Heritage Site shared with your family and friends. This is also a perfect spot for a romantic picnic or Valentine’s Day.
So pack a delicious picnic, bottle of wine and a cosy blanket, slather on the sunscreen and get ready for the Kirstenbosch Summer Sunset Concerts.
