Go wine tasting at Groot Constantia

Possibly Cape Town’s best kept secret as far as romantic getaways go. Groot Constantia is SA’s oldest wine producing wine farm which means the estate has buildings that date back to the 18th century – a great setting with a truly romantic feel.

The chocolate and wine pairing is a match made in heaven and a great tasting experience as is a traditional wine tasting of Groot Constantia’s award-winning wines.

Visit the stunning Jonkershuis Restaurant is the perfect spot to enjoy a romantic dinner for two. Jonkershuis is very conscious of the provenance, sustainability and the ethical content of all the food prepared, as well as reflecting the rich Cape Malay heritage of our ‘home’. Private dining grandeur, to intimate interior fire side dining; typical Italian village gatherings in the covered courtyard to family style lunches on their front lawns, under the old oak trees.

Book a table at Simon’s and revel in the Cape Town summer; by dining al fresco on their terrace with panoramic views of the Groot Constantia vineyards. Savour the wines of Groot Constantia.

Cuddle up at Kirstenbosch

Kirstenbosch Gardens might as well be Cupid’s backyard with its sprawling lawns nestled between indigenous flora on the slopes of Wine Berg.

One of the most romantic things to do at Kirstenbosch is watching the sun set over the Constantia Valley from the aptly titled Boomslang (tree snake) Walkway. Built to commemorate the Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden’s 100th anniversary in 2013, the Boomslang is a 130m canopy walkway “snaking” its way through the tree tops.

In the summer months, spread a picnic blanket and catch a famous Kirstenbosch Summer Sunset Concertget your tickets here. Or cuddle up under the stars to a magical movie experience in the most beautiful garden in South Africa with The Galileo Open Air Cinema. Have sushi at Cape Point

Cape Point is a well-know engagement hotspot so, guys, if you’re aiming to pop the big question, this is the place to do it.

It also boasts arguably the most scenically placed wooden deck in Africa at the famous Two Ocean’s restaurant. They serve an a la carte breakfast and lunch, be sure to try their world-class sushi seafood platter for two, prepared by 5th generation sushi chef, Sarawut Sukkowplang and enjoy one of the best views on the continent.

The Cape Point funicular is a railway line that runs from a lower station at the Cape Point car park, up an incline through dense fynbos to the upper lighthouse. It’s the ideal way to whisk closer to the lighthouse (and perhaps the perfect spot to bend a knee for a proposal). (The Cape Point funicular will be closed for maintenance from 8 – 16 February, but shuttles will be available in its place.)

If you’re adventurous, head down to Buffels Bay or Bortjiesrif, or for a secluded picnic or take a walk down to Dias beach if you’re brave enough to brace the steps.
