Since January this year, close to 1 million people (865 595 at end April) visitors have crossed the bridge. On average, 180 000 to 240 000 people cross the bridge every month. With new development at the Silo District, a larger bridge was required to cater for the increased footfall.
The new bridge will be twice as wide at 4 meters. A raised beam running down the centre of the bridge will encourage people to always enter the bridge to their left.

Cableway Annual Maintenance Reminder

Attention Cableway visitors: The Cableway is closed for annual maintenance from Monday, 8 July to Sunday, 18 August 2019.

This winter, we’ll be shutting down our operations for six weeks to do some renovating, replace the cable car ropes, and more. All of these changes will ensure an even better visitor experience for you when we re-open!

We know six weeks is a long time, so while we are busy fixing things up, here are a few things you need to know:

You can still collect and use your free birthday special ticket one week before we close and one week after we re-open. Visitors must please bring along their valid SA IDs to prove that you will be celebrating your birthday during the six-week shutdown.

You may hike up Table Mountain: Please remember that the cable cars and all of our facilities, including our restrooms, eateries and shops will not be open during our annual maintenance period. Please hike with a registered guide and follow these safety guidelines.

You can still feast your eyes on what’s on offer at the Cableway: By subscribing to our social media channels and checking out what to expect on your next visit, our specials for locals with valid SA IDs, our responsible tourism projects and more.
