Enjoy the #WinterWonders of Kirstenbosch with free entry for kids during the school holidays.
FREE entry for kids this school holidays!*
From Saturday 15th June to Monday 8th July 2019, Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden is hosting its annual Winter Wonders Special. Children 17 years and younger get FREE* entry to Kirstenbosch and the chance to enjoy an exciting kids programme, packed with fun-filled activities at the Moyo Kirstenbosch Restaurant. These include drumming, arts ‘n crafts, slime-making, movies and more.
The Winter Wonders Special is a great opportunity for families to explore the most beautiful garden in Africa and learn more about its magnificent and meticulously-cultivated indigenous flora.
It’s best to make a day of it, so pack a picnic and head over to the info desk, and ask about the free 90 minute guided tours, or simply grab a map and go your own way. To begin your adventure, start with The Conservatory – a desert house with a majestic baobab tree in its centre, succulent treasures and ‘weird’ welwitschias – also known as ‘tweeblaarkanniedood’.
Then take a walk on the wild side towards the Tree Canopy Walkway (aka ‘The Boomslang‘) and tell the kids to be on the lookout for birds and dinosaurs (well, life-sized sculptures of them anyway!) lurking behind giant cycads in the Cycad Amphitheatre. Walking further up, you’ll spot different species of flowering proteas. Near Gate 2, you can see some of the healing plants in the Useful Plants Garden, explore with your nose in the Fragrance Garden and appreciate the beauty of African art in the Sculpture Garden.
Moyo is located nearest to the Visitors’ Centre (Gate 1) at the Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden in Rhodes Drive, Newlands. Kirstenbosch is open every day from 08h00-18h00 in winter.
