New Universal Access Walkway Opens on Table Mountain
2026 – One of South Africa’s most iconic attractions is now more accessible than ever. Table Mountain Aerial Cableway, in partnership with South African National Parks, has officially opened a Universal Access Walkway on Table Mountain, now giving access to a 1.8km circular route at the summit.
Designed to accommodate visitors using wheelchairs, prams, and those with mobility challenges, the new walkway allows more people to safely and comfortably experience the natural beauty of the mountain.
“I’m very grateful, especially to our engineering team, who oversaw this project along with SANParks to make sure that the structure is not just beautiful, it is safe,” says Table Mountain Aerial Cableway Company Managing Director Wahida Parker.
“Everybody must be able to access and enjoy the wonders of the world, regardless of your mobility; you should not be hindered,” says SANParks Regional Manager, Bongani Mnisi, highlighting the organisation’s dedication to removing barriers and designing for all.
Accessibility in Action
Accessibility at the summit goes even further. The Table Mountain Aerial Cableway offers mobility scooters at the Top Station, making it easier for visitors who use wheelchairs or have mobility challenges to explore the area independently.
With paved pathways, ramps, and elevators at the Lower Cable Station, and easy-to-use route maps, every step of the journey has been thoughtfully considered.
“I’m very glad that they have built this boardwalk, and that they’ve got the motorised scooters to be used here,” shares Renè Moses of Travel with Renè. “I’m glad Table Mountain has taken the initiative, and that they actually allow wheelchair caregivers to come in at no cost.”
