Summer in Cape Town is a wonderful time – the days are longer, the year is winding down and everyone is getting into the festive mood. One of the best ways to celebrate summer is to pack a picnic, take a hike or find the best spot to enjoy an epic Summer Sunset. Here are our top Summer Sunset ideas:
There is an amazing transition that takes place at the V&A Waterfront at sunset. The Waterfront slowly transforms into a dining and entertainment hub. There are dozens of fine restaurants with terraces and good vantage points, and there are few better places to spend an afternoon and evening here.
What about a sunset cruise? Take in the glorious views of Cape Town with a cruise of the harbour. The V&A Waterfront has a wide variety of boats, yachts and ferries on offer. Find out more here. Try the romantic sunset and champagne cruise with someone special – it is sure to leave you in awe of the Cape’s beauty. Prices vary, and bookings are generally advised, you can find out more here.
Hop on a helicopter for a thrilling ride around the peninsula or to the Winelands! Find out more here.
Ride the Cape Wheel! The views are unparalleled and it makes a perfect start to a romantic evening or an exciting day out. The duration of the ride is 15 minutes and for ticket prices visit www.capewheel.co.za or call Tel: +27 21 418 2502
It should go without saying that visiting Cape Town means having to visit the towering headland known as Cape Point. With its magnificent beaches, breath-taking views and picturesque coastal villages, Cape Point is one of the world’s most scenic areas; and that’s before taking into account those filter-like effects of the sunset on the peninsula.
he sunset piéce de résistance would have to be catching the 1 pm ferry to Robben Island in Winter or the 3 pm ferry in summer. Your 4 hour tour (including the +-30 minute ferry trip to the island and back, depending on type of boat used) includes a guided bus tour of the island and culminates with a viewing of Nelson Mandela’s cell, will give you a lot to reflect on, as you head back towards busy city life. While the sunset may seem secondary to everything you’ve seen and heard, it will be difficult to ignore the beauty around you, as you approach the Cape Town harbour at dusk.
Groot Constantia has numerous walking paths that one can enjoy in the evenings. Walk to the top of the estate and bask in the glory as the sun sets over the vineyards, or enjoy a meal outside Simon’s Restaurant or Jonkershuis Restaurant.
Both Simon’s and Jonkerhuis have amazing outdoor areas with unique vantage points over the estate, and it makes absolute sense to get there for lunch or an early dinner to fully appreciate these.
