3. V&A Waterfront Incredible Illusions: Jaw-dropping 3D Illusions

Incredible Illusions, the largest collection of 3D illusions created by master artist Kurt Wenner, is open at the V&A Waterfront this autumn until Sunday, 23 July, to enthral both young and old alike. Comprising a jaw-dropping Grand Gallery of 360° 3D illustrations supported by a collection of humorous and adventurous images, this will be the exhibition’s first stopover on the African continent.

Fun from beginning to end, the Incredible Illusions exhibition includes an ‘art jamming’ zone where children and adults alike can learn the basics of 3D artwork to express themselves creatively. An educational zone tells the brief story of ‘Pavement Art’ and how the mathematical field of geometry plays a pivotal role in compiling a 3D design.

4. V&A Waterfront Play-Doh Kitchen Creations Junior Chef Competition

Calling all budding master chefs – the PLAY-DOH Kitchen Creations Junior Chef Competition is coming to the V&A Waterfront these winter school holidays to put young ones’ creativity to the test!

Sponsored by Hamleys and free to attend, the competition will run from 10am to 6pm, from Tuesday, 18 to Monday, 24 July at the Centre Court in the Victoria Wharf Shopping Centre, and will include a Master Chef–style ‘cook-off’. Children will compete to make the best kitchen creations using PLAY-DOH, all for the coveted prize of a Kitchen Creations set.

5. Kirstenbosch Biodiversity and Waste Holiday Art Workshop

What happens to all our litter and waste? Could we reduce, reuse or recycle it? Learners aged 10 – 12 will enjoy a walk in Kirstenbosch and come to appreciate just how special our biodiversity is. They will consider the impact litter and waste is having on our special plants and animals. Back at the Gold Fields Education Centre they will use waste materials to make a useful item, which they will taken home with them.

6. Kirstenbosch Nature’s Treasure Box Holiday Art Workshop

Children aged 6 – 9 love this workshop. They enjoy a game and a story linked to the theme. They are led into Kirstenbosch Garden in small groups by our education officers, where they have fun in nature and discover just how varied and beautiful it is. They return to the Gold Fields Education Centre, where they paint and decorate a box into which they place some of nature’s treasures. Be sure to book early, as this workshop usually fills up fast! 7. Table Mountain Cableway Kids Season

Explore the natural beauty and grace of Table Mountain with your children during the Cableway’s Kidz Season, when two kids ride for free with an adult who has purchased a return ticket online or from the Lower Cable Station.

This offer runs from May 1 to September 30 and is valid on weekends, public holidays, and during the June and July school holidays!

Your children can enjoy a day of fun, food and natural beauty atop Table Mountain, and even a kiddies’ treasure hunt.

8. Cape Point Winter Special 2017

Once again Cape Point will be bringing the heat with their mid-year specials (1 July to 30 September 2017) where two kids (aged 6 -16) ride free on the Flying Dutchman Funicular when an adult return ticket is bought for R65.

The funicular is the only one of its kind in Africa so it’s a novel way to get to the top (without breaking a sweat). From up there, you’ll have amazing views all around, it’ll make you hungry for more. You can curb that craving at the Two Oceans Restaurant , with its mouthwatering dishes. Did we mention that kids eat free with any main meal ordered? Simply tell your waiter you’d like to claim the kids winter special and you’ll receive a free kiddies meal with each main meal ordered (sit-down only).

9. Get to the Cape Town Big 6 with the Cape Town Red Bus 3-for-1 Kids Special

The Cape Town City Sightseeing Red Bus 3-for-1 Kids’ Special means you can take two kids (under 18) along for free when you buy one adult one-day bus ticket or Harbour Cruise ticket. The special runs from 1 May to 8 October 2017 and will be valid on weekends, school holidays and public holidays.

Children can take in the sights and sounds of the city while listening to their very own channel.
