Robben Island Museum extends its group ticket discounts of up to 25%, for the whole of June, encouraging youth groups to visit the island during Youth Month.

“We have seen an uptake in visits from young people, which is really encouraging. Many of the youth who were involved in the 1976 uprising, ended up as political prisoners on Robben Island, and at a time when the modern-day struggles of our young people are being articulated, a visit to Robben Island Museum is most fitting,” said Siphuxolo Mazwi, RIM Senior Manager: Marketing and Tourism.

Highlights of visiting Robben Island

While the privilege of seeing Madiba’s cell remains an emotional highlight of the RIM tour for all visitors, there are incredible stories of bravery, courage and conviction, narrated in bone-chilling accuracy, by former political prisoners particularly on the arrival, accommodation and covert operations of those arrested in the 1976 youth uprising.

Group Discounts

“Young people are social beings and tend to socialise in groups, while also seeking value for money in their social spending. With strict COVID-19 protocols being observed, both on the ferry and on the island, we implore youth groups and other social formations to take advantage of these reduced ticket prices and put a visit to the island on their agenda this month. We also encourage visitors to purchase their tickets online, via Webtickets to avoid queueing at the Gateway,” concluded Mazwi.

“Robben Island Museum is arguably one of Africa’s most renowned symbols of her struggle for freedom and stands as reminder of the strength of the human spirit, particularly in a time when South Africa and Africa at large are still yearning for true freedom,” said Siphuxolo Mazwi, RIM Senior Manager: Marketing and Tourism.
