Robben Island Museum

Not only has Robben Island added a brand new ferry to its fleet (the Krakatoa), they’ve also launched their two-tier pricing structure, making a trip to former prison island far more accessible to locals.

The new standard tariffs (effective from 1 June 2019) are as follows:

  • R 380 for South African adults and R 200 for South African children aged two to 18 years.
  • R 550 ($40 | €35) for non-South African adults and R 300 ($15 | €15) for non-South African children aged two to 18 years.

Students: discount rates are available for school groups interested in educational tours.

Senior citizens: South African citizens aged 60 and above can get concessions (tickets specially priced at R240) every Monday and Wednesday through the booking office in the Nelson Mandela Gateway, where the ferries depart to Robben Island.

Group bookings on special concessions: from May to October every year, eligible groups (for example,  people from previously disadvantaged backgrounds, churches, NGO’s and so forth) can qualify for concession rates at reduced ticket prices. These rates are available through formal submissions made to Infow@robben-island.org.za on official letterhead.
