New developments at the Cape Town Big 6
Table Mountain, one of the new natural wonders of the world, is the city’s open-armed welcome to visitors from near and far and offers a highly-impressive rotating cable car and a bird’s eye view from the top. The Table Mountain Cableway’s wi-fi lounge officially opens on Thursday 14 April, 2016 where visitors can stay connected and enjoy the snacks as well as a selection of refreshments. Keep your eyes open for the 3-for-1 Kidz Season special during the school holidays, weekends and public holidays from 1 May to 30 September when the ticket prices are R240 for one adult and two children (this offer is open to local and foreign visitors).
If Table Mountain is the open-armed welcome then the V & A Waterfront is the energetic gateway to experience the rest of the city. The prime location, harbour views and the fact that every single open space is being utilised make the V & A Waterfront the ultimate destination to experience Cape Town’s culture, shopping, fine dining and historical walks. A new addition to the V & A Waterfront, the Zeits Museum of Contemporary Art Africa, is opening its doors soon to celebrate Africa’s rich heritage through housing the most significant collection of contemporary art from Africa and its Diaspora. The V & A Waterfront is also up for an award tonight at the Tourism for Tomorrow Awards in Dallas, Texas.
Just a short ferry ride from the V & A Waterfront lies the iconic Robben Island, a reminder of South Africa’s turbulent past; this island gives a glimpse into the reconciliation and resilience of South Africa and also keeping up to date with the latest trends.
Groot Constantia is South Africa’s oldest wine producing estate, a national monument and has been tickling taste buds and enticing wine connoisseurs since 1685. Soon visitors will be able to have a completely different experience at Groot Constantia and with one ticket you will be able to have a wine-tasting museum experience, a tour through the cellars and access to the restaurants.
The panoramic views of Cape Point, the most southwestern tip of Africa, is one of the most picture-perfect dramatic attractions in South Africa. If you have a Wild Card or a My Green Card you can now enjoy a discount to the funicular (remember to bring your ID if you are using a Wild Card).
The Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden is always buzzing with events and has been adding trophies to their collection from the annual Chelsea Flower Show in London year after year. This year’s show is from the 24th to the 28th of May and we are excited to support Kirstenbosch and see how Cape Town’s most beautiful garden will steal the show once again.
